Arlene Foster moans that same-sex marriage was ‘imposed’ upon Northern Ireland while missing an obvious point

DUP leader Arlene Foster has been moaning – yet again – about how same-sex marriage and abortion were “imposed” on Northern Ireland by Westminster. Same-sex marriage finally became legal in Northern Ireland on January 12 2020, with the first same-sex weddings expected to take place in the territory on Valentine’s Day. Needless to say, Foster is unhappy about this development. Arlene Foster wants Northern Ireland to have its ‘own voice heard’ – but this conflicts with her desire for full alignment with rest of UK. Churches clash in bitter row over picture of ‘Christ kissing a boy’ used for ‘sinful’ LGBT conference

Two churches are battling over a “sinful” LGBT+ conference called after a poster was revealed of Jesus kissing a child. Last week, Mid Ulster Pride, in Northern Ireland, celebrated the official launch of its parade to be held in June. During the celebration, Anglican Church of Ireland rector reverend Andrew Rawding – who is also the deputy chairman of Mid Ulster Pride – also announced another event which has since become a lightning rod for condemnation. On April 1, Mid Ulster Pride will hold a conference called ‘Blessed are the Queer’,...

The Christian Institute said that the government’s Northern Ireland Office (NIO) has committed to protecting and emboldening homophobes through a series of legal measures, a day after it threatened legal action if such protections were not brought forward. The group on Friday, January 3, said that Northern Ireland secretary Julian Smith has written to government...

Until October, the province was the only place in the British Isles (alongside the island of Sark) that had not legalised equal marriage. In July Westminster MPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of changing the law if the devolved government, Stormont, had not been re-established. A last-ditch attempt to do so was led by Arlene Foster’s DUP party on the eve of the deadline, but it was ultimately unsuccessful. LGBT+ advocates...
