Bhutan moves to decriminalise homosexuality

Bhutan’s National Assembly has begun the process of decriminalising gay sex, a move which could hand LGBT+ people improved rights. The Buddhist kingdom’s lower house voted on Friday (June 7) to remove two sections of its penal code which outlaw “unnatural sex,” defined as “sodomy or any other sexual conduct that is against the order of nature.” An amendment bill will now be put to Bhutan’s upper house for formal approval. Breaking: Section 213 and 214 of the Bhutan Penal Code criminalizing ‘unnatural sex’ or homosexuality has been removed by...

Philippines President Duterte: I Was Gay ‘But I Cured Myself’

“Duterte is gay. So I am gay, I don’t care if I’m gay or not.” Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte says he used to be gay but was able to “cure” himself. Filipino news publication Rappler reports Duterte “implied during a speech on Thursday, May 30, in Japan, that being gay is a disease that needs curing.” Homosexuality is not a disease and therefore not something to “cure.” Duterte reportedly said in a speech someone he knows who is gay told him that his arch political rival, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, is also gay, based...

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo attacked Pete Buttigieg Tuesday, saying the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate’s remarks that Vice President Mike Pence is a homophobe are “slanderous.” He also lied about President Donald Trump and the administration’s policies toward LGBTQ people, in the U.S. and around the world. “I’ve known Mike Pence, Vice President Pence, for an awfully long time now,” Secretary Pompeo told right wing pundit Hugh Hewitt on his radio show. Pompeo called Vice President Pence “a fundamentally decent man,” and said the VP “shares the administration’s view with respect...

‘Homophobe Hatemonger’ Franklin Graham Raked Over the Coals by Conservative Columnist: Your Time Has Passed

In a scathing column in the Washington Post, conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin launched a full-throated attack on evangelical Christian pastor Franklin Graham for his homophobic comments about Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg, saying Franklin’s brand of bigotry is fading fast. According to the conservative, Graham elevated the profile of the South Bend, Indiana mayor — and in a good way for the Democrat. “South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg has been rising in the polls and sweeping in fundraising dollars (from Hollywood, among other places), thanks to poised town hall...

Rick Santorum Squirms While Trying to Defend Franklin Graham’s Hypocritical Attacks on Pete Buttigieg

After Attacking LGBT People for Years Santorum Now Says ‘I’m Not an Expert in This Area’ Trump defender Rick Santorum admitted on Friday that the Rev. Franklin Graham was being hypocritical in his condemnation of South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg — even as he’s been keeping silent on the immorality displayed by President Donald Trump. During an appearance on CNN, host John Berman pointed out that “it seems there is some relativism” in Graham’s religious faith because “he is calling on Pete Buttigieg to repent for being gay, yet he’s...
