Cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit of filmmaking during three days of independent film in Cincinnati! The Cindipendent Film Festival will take place Thursday, August 23, through Saturday, August 25.
The Cindependent Film Festival is an inaugural event meant to create a home for independent film in Cincinnati. It’s diverse and inclusive, with tons of fun and thought-provoking films perfect for any novice or newbie on the film scene.
According to their website, the festival’s goals are to:
- engage the Cincinnati creative sector in enrichment, entrepreneurship, education and economic development;
- develop a hub of cultural activity in downtown Cincinnati to attract residents, businesses and tourists;
- grow and support successful, sustainable arts organizations in Cincinnati;
- and host filmmakers from all over the world to showcase Cincinnati as a destination for filmmaking and entrepreneurship.
The 2018 festival will feature a wide variety of exciting independent films, including a mix of feature and short films. For a quick look at the schedule, click here.
One such film to be premiered at the Cindependent Film Festival will be “Leelah’s Highway,” a 24-minute long documentary that tells the story Leelah Alcorn, the young transgender girl who died by suicide in Warren County in 2014.
The film highlights some of the struggles faced by many in the transgender community. It also documents the naming of “Leelah’s Highway,” as a Kings High School graduate fills out the paperwork for an adopt-a-highway sign on I-71 in memory of Leelah’s life.
“Leelah’s Highway” is set to premiere on August 24, during the 7:30 p.m. block of the festival. Click here for more information and a schedule for that night.
