Outsports Pride to feature inspiring trans, lesbian, gay, bi and queer athletes

Outsports is proud to announce the latest group of powerful speakers joining us for Outsports Pride, to be held in New York City, June 21-24.

The group includes professional athletes, several NCAA coaches, and people working in sports across the pro and college sports landscapes.

All of these incredible speakers will be part of the Outsports Summit, being hosted at the Dream Hotel, June 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Many of them will also be participating throughout the weekend at Outsports’ social events and marching with Outsports during the historic New York City Pride March on June 24.

Registration is still open for the summit and the entire Outsports Pride weekend. You can find more information and register at outsportspride.com. Weekend events include social events Thursday and Friday nights, as well as a free ticket to the DodgersMets game Saturday night, courtesy of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The latest round of speakers announcement includes these LGBTQ people from across the sports world:

Sarah Axelson. Axelson is a former softball player at the University of Mary Washington. She is currently the Director of Advocacy for the Women’s Sports Foundation.

Katelyn Best. The out sports writer focuses on women’s soccer. She is a contributor to Outsports.

Erik Braverman. The Senior Vice-President with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who has worked in sports and sports media for two decades, will share his insight about building a career in pro sports.

Harrison Browne. The trailblazing two-time National Women’s Hockey League champion is the first publicly out transgender athlete in North American professional team sports.

Nevin Caple. The former NCAA basketball player for Farleigh-Dickinson University is a co-founder of LGBT SportSafe, which seeks to build inclusion for athletes and coaches of any sexual orientation or gender identity.

Dylan Geick. Since coming out publicly last year as a gay athlete, Geick has become a star on social media.

Lexie Gerson. The NCAA basketball coach and former player competed for the University of Virginia from 2009-2014. She is currently a coach for Harcum College and is the founder of Lexie Gerson Basketball. Instagram

Clare Kenny. Now campaigns manager at GLAAD and working with campus programs, Kenny is a former volleyball player at Skidmore College and build an LGBTQ inclusion program in her athletics department.

Phaidra Knight. The legendary rugby player is one of only two Americans inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame. She represented the United States in international competition for almost two decades. Instagram

Sarah Kogod. A trailblazer for women sports journalists, Kogod is a former writer and executive with SB Nation.

Conner Mertens. The former Willamette University football kicker was the first active college football player to come out publicly. He is currently a part of Anthony Nicodemo’s political campaign. Twitter

DJ Slifer. The Texas A&M-Kingsville assistant women’s basketball coach played basketball himself at Central Missouri. Instagram

Kirk Walker. One of the first NCAA Div. I coaches to come out publicly as gay, Walker will share his insights working at two Pac-12 schools as a softball coach. He works closely with GO! Athletes and Equality Coaching Alliance. Twitter
